About Rotary Startrek
StarTrek is an annual team orienteering trek in the dark.
Aimed at groups of 4-6 people, the team leader must be 18 or over and the youngest member must not be under 16.
Knowledge of map and compass reading is essential as the route takes you over common and moorland for 16 or 8 miles. To add to the challenge, clues, cryptic and others need to be found on route! StarTrek is not a race, its a test of initiative, stamina and team building.
For your safety, a kit inspection takes place before you can walk; we have search teams positioned throughout the route and check-points at regular intervals.
The location is TOP SECRET and will be disclosed 1 week prior, when teams are advised of their start time; between 6 and 10pm. Refreshments are provided at the start, halfway house and at the finish.
The StarTrek Challenge Shield
The winners of the Challenge Shield are the team achieving the most points. These points are a combination of the time taken to do the walk plus answers to the clues during the walk.
The second category is the highest sponsorship raised. In this category, the winning team have the opportunity to present their charity with a cheque for £500, second place a cheque for £300, and third a cheque for £150.
StarTrek Corporate Challenge Trophy
This is given to the business whose teams raise the most sponsorship and a cheque of £500 is given to the charity of their choice.
The Exmoor Ales Challenge Shield
This will be awarded to the pub team achieving the most points with a combination of walk times and answers to the clues during the walk. Their Pub will receive a 9 gallon cask of Exmoor Ale.
The Exmoor Ales Sponsorship Shield
This will be awarded to the pub team raising the most sponsorship. They will be able to give a cheque of £500 to the charity of their choice. In addition their pub will receive a 9 gallon cask of Exmoor Gold.
Only 100 teams can participate in StarTrek Challenge based on a first come first served basis.
Take advantage of the early Booking fee of £12 per person rising to £15 after the 31st of December. This covers the cost of organising the event and includes the provision of refreshments for walkers at base camp.
100% of the sponsorship raised is collected by the Rotary Club of Ilfracombe Trust Fund (Registered Charity number 1037348). It is then distributed to the main charities and also used to support other groups and projects.
For the Ilfracombe Rotary Clubs, StarTrek is now one of the largest fund raising events done by any Rotary Club in Great Britain.
Our invite to you… rise to the challenge!
