The Challenge

This exercise is aimed at groups of 4-6 people of all ages, although the team leader must be at least 18 years of age and no entrants will be accepted under 16 years. Knowledge of map reading and the use of a compass is essential and a good pair of walking boots together with warm waterproof clothing should be worn. Further details of equipment and kit will be sent out on instruction sheets which will be provided for all competitors.

The route will be on common and moor land and extend to about l6 miles. Teams will be asked to report to a check-point on Exmoor for a start between 6pm and l0pm on the Saturday evening 1st March and the course should be completed in good time for breakfast on Sunday morning.

At each check-point on the route teams will be asked to provide the answers to clues given at the previous check-point and the correct answers and completion of sections on time will determine the scores achieved by individual teams. This is not, however, intended as a race but more as a test of initiative and stamina.

The STARTREK CHALLENGE SHIELD will be awarded to the winning team and a prize will be awarded to the team who achieve the most sponsorship.

This team will also receive £500 to give to their nominated charity or good cause.  The next two highest teams will be able to donate £300 and £150.

Those wishing to enter should complete the enclosed application form. Only 100 teams can be accepted and this will be on a first come first served basis. You will be advised in good time whether your entry has been accepted and then you will be provided with full details of the equipment and map required, reporting time and sponsorship forms.

Refreshments will be available at the halfway point on the course. A small charge will be made to each entrant to cover the refreshments and the basic organisation costs so that all the money raised by sponsorship can be donated to our projects.

Remember that the principal aim of Star-Trek is to raise funds for the 'Hospice' movement.
