This year's main beneficiaries will be:-
CHILDREN'S HOSPICE SOUTH WEST
NORTH DEVON HOSPICE CARE TRUST
The Children's Hospice South West
In The South West region there are over 1,000 children who have illness's that mean they will die before adulthood. These conditions range from heart disease and organic failure to muscular dystrophy, cancer and cystic fibrosis. Children who suffer in this way need very special care during their shortened lives, care which only a dedicated children's hospice can provide.
Not only does the Children's Hospice South West provide the care that such very sick children require, but we also give much needed support to their families during their child's illness and beyond, into bereavement.
Families from all over the South West region are welcomed, without charge, but the cost of supporting this very specialist care is in excess of £6 million each year, for our two hospices Little Bridge House in north Devon and Charlton Farm in North Somerset . Sadly the need for children's hospice care will never disappear. Happily, with your help, Children's Hospice South West will be there to meet that need.
Stars are very significant for us at Little Bridge House and Charlton Farm, as we hang one on our door when a child passes away. Our unspoken word to each other that a precious life has been lost. As you walk underneath the many stars that light your way during "StarTrek;" please spare a thought for our special children, for you are helping us to make the most of these short but precious lives.
The North Devon Hospice Care Trust back to top
North Devon Hospice is a local charity providing specialist care and support to local people with a life-threatening illness and their loved ones, completely free of charge. The hospice’s focus is being there for all the family and supporting our local community.
Services at the hospice include specialist community nursing, in-patient care, day care, complementary therapies, emotional and spiritual support, education and training. Everyday your local hospice helps up to 80 people cope with the impact of a life-threatening illness. The hospice needs £2.5 million every year to fund these vital services and are totally dependent on the generous support of the North Devon community.
North Devon Hospice would like to thank everyone who has supported us, either by donation or by giving their time, it is very sincerely appreciated and helps make a positive difference to the lives of hundreds of local people.
This work (and more) could not be undertaken without the generous support of our local community. We would like to thank everyone involved in Star Trek for this amazing show of support - and we wish all the participants the very best of luck for the 27 February 2010.
