StarTrek Challenge
StarTrek is an annual team orienteering trek across Exmoor in the dark.
Aimed at groups of 4-6 people, the team leader must be 18 or over and the youngest member must not be under 16.
Knowledge of map and compass reading is essential as the route takes you over common and moorland for about 16 miles. To add to the challenge, clues, cryptic and others need to be found on route! StarTrek is not a race, its a test of initiative, stamina and team building.
For your safety, a kit inspection takes place before you can walk; we have search teams positioned throughout the route and check-points at regular intervals.
The location is TOP SECRET and will be disclosed 1 week prior, when teams are advised of their start time; between 6 and 10pm. Refreshments are provided at the start, halfway house and a warming bowl of porridge and bacon butty for breakfast!
The STARTREK CHALLENGE SHIELD is awarded to the winning team and they receive £500 to give to their nominated charity or good cause. 2nd and 3rd places are given £300 and £150 respectively. A prize is awarded to the team who can raise the most sponsorship.
Only 100 teams can participate based on a first come first served basis. An entrance fee of £7 is payable to cover basic costs and refreshments as 100% of the sponsor money raised is guaranteed to go to the Rotary Club of Ilfracombe designated projects. The main beneficiaries are the Hospice movements and other local charities.
For the Ilfracombe Rotary Clubs, StarTrek is now one of the largest fund raising events done by any Rotary Club in Great Britain. Our invite to you... rise to the challenge!
